On Tuesday 20th May, the offices of Computime welcomed the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Communications, Hon Minister Austin Gatt who launched the third cycle of myPotential scheme.

Launch of Computime's Sun Authorised Education Centre

Minister Gatt announced that this year he is very pleased that a number of new providers have been added under that myPotential scheme. Computime, one of these new providers, will be offering training in Java and Solaris OS, under the Authorised Sun Education Centre programme. The Minister also announced that the people participating in such training programmes will be eligible for tax refunds, which go up to 100% in some cases.

Mr John Wood, Director at Computime, said that the company has seen the benefits of myPotential, firstly as an employer by employing students who have undergone training under this scheme, and also as an opportunity to offer authorized training in Java, which to date has not been offered as a training option. ?Java is the most popular ?open source? type of software in the world. This is a creation of Sun Microsystems, which is one of the most innovative companies in this field, and which has a very close relationship with Computime. After a long period of training for our trainers, and undergoing a strict certification process, we are pleased to say that Computime are now an Authorised Sun Education Centre, one of only three within the Mediterranean and Baltic regions,? said Mr Wood. As an ASEC, Computime are the only training provider in Malta who can deliver training based on curricula developed by Sun Microsystems, using official training manuals and course work.

Sun certification is recognized industry wide, and is providing increasing opportunities as the demand for certified people is rapidly increasing. Java technology or Solaris OS certification from Sun provides evidence of technical competency, professional dedication and motivation that employers value.

Students who are interested to participate in these training programmes should log on to http://asec.computime.com.mt for more information about the courses being offered.
