Supply & Installation of a Data Network

The hotel was the venue for one of the most important conferences ever to be held in Malta, the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, better known as CHOGM.  Following the inaugural opening of the hotel in September 2005, we were contracted to deliver and implement a secured Cisco Gigabit network to deliver IP services to all guest rooms and a secured wireless LAN solution for public areas including the conference rooms.

The Cisco solution was based on the Catalyst 4506 Chassis for the backbone and switch aggregation switch. The Catalyst 4506 offered a 64Gbps backplane and advanced QoS and L2/3/4 services. For the switch aggregation we deployed the Catalyst 3750G switches which again offered advanced Qos and L2/3/4 services.  For the workgroup switches, we installed the Catalyst 2950 series, which are Layer 2+ workgroup switches. The Cisco Aironet 1310 series of wireless 802.11a/b/g access points made up the bulk of the WLAN.

For the management of the whole network we implemented an SNMP management framework based on the HP OV Network Node Manager and network element managers from Cisco, namely Ciscoworks LMS.

We also installed a fibre optic solution from Tyco/AMP based on the OM3 specification that, at the time, was the only certified fibre for the 10G standard, hence offering a better investment protection.

We completed this project in record time, just in time for the CHOGM opening ceremonies in November of 2005.
